13 Powerful Warehouse Conveyor Types for Efficiency

Powerful Warehouse Conveyors, also known as material handling equipment or MHE are used to transport materials from one location to another. These machines can be used for the transportation of bulk goods, parcels or pallets. They have been in use since the 1800s for material handling.  There are many different types of conveyors and their designs vary depending on the application they are being used for.  So conveyor is a material handling system that is used to carry objects from one place to another.

In this article, we will go over the Powerful Warehouse Conveyor types:

belt conveyor1.  Belt Conveyor

It is the most common type of powerful warehouse conveyor that moves materials. This kind of powerful warehouse conveyor consists of two parts: a continuous loop belt and rollers on both ends to guide it. The belt conveys material from one end to another by using roller chains attached at each end. Belt conveyors are used for the handling of bulk goods, food processing, and materials in manufacturing industries.

2.  Roller Conveyors

Roller conveyors are widely used for transferring goods from one area to another in a continuous process. This conveyor system consists of rollers that move materials horizontally along a gently sloping chute, where it is unloaded at the bottom and later loaded back onto another set of rollers at the other end.

3.  Gravity Roller Conveyor

As its name suggests, a gravity roller conveyor operates on the force of gravity to move material from one end to another. It consists of steel rollers that rotate around a vertical shaft with little space in between them. The bottom rollers are slightly higher than the top ones and have an inclined plane at its lower ends so that materials can easily slide down and be transported to the other end.

4.  Powered Roller Conveyor

Powered roller conveyors are similar to gravity roller conveyors, except that each rollers is driven by an electric motor. This type of system tends to be used to move goods when the layout does not allow for a gravity-based solution.

5.  Skatewheel Conveyor

Skatewheel conveyor is a special type of roller conveyor in which the main rollers are replaced with an endless series of staggered wheels.  Skatewheel conveyors are good for carrying light to medium weight objects that need to move at faster rates.

expandable conveyor6.  Expandable Conveyor

Expandable powerful warehouse conveyors are frequently used in factories, warehouses, and industrial facilities. These powerful warehouse conveyors can be expanded to provide a non-permanent conveyor solution and easily be condensed down when not needed. When not expanded, this conveyor has a relatively low footprint.

7.  Spiral Conveyor

A spiral conveyor can be belt or roller conveyor and is typically used to transfer items from one level of the facility to the other. Gravity based spiral conveyor can be used for transporting goods down a level and powered conveyor can be used to transport items up a level.

8.  Chute Conveyor

A chute conveyor is used when you need to transport a small amount of material. It consists of a flexible chute that runs over an endless loop located below it. The material being moved can be quickly loaded and unloaded from this powerful warehouse conveyor as the belt moves up and down rather than side to side. This type of conveyor has been widely used in granaries and grain mills for the transporting of dry food materials from one location to another.

9.  Cable Conveyor

A cable conveyor is very simple and its use can be found in many industries like mining, forestry, and agriculture. It consists of a large steel wire rope that runs through a pulley at both ends. The material being transported slides down on the cable with the help of gravity. A motor is frequently used to speed up the process when necessary.

10.  Chain Conveyors

Chain conveyors are often used to move large, bulky goods like steel products through a network of rollers. One or more electric motor drives are positioned at each end and run over the length of the chain. The fast moving chain moves material from one point to another quickly as it is not limited by gravity as in other types of conveyors.

11.  Slat Conveyor

The slat conveyor is generally used for handling over-sized, heavy components in a continuous process. The frame of this conveyor consists of steel angle iron with smooth steel bars that run from one side to another. It’s often used for bulk material handling as it has low power requirements and can be modified easily.

12.  Elevator Conveyor

Elevator conveyors are effectively used in multi-level buildings to move materials and goods between floors and levels. These are often used in conjunction with belt or roller conveyors.

13.  Towline Conveyor

Towline conveyors are used to move materials from one point to another in a continuous process. This conveyor system can move large items, such as heavy equipment chastises and engine blocks, through a production facility.

With so many types of conveyors, it’s very important to know the types of conveyor needed to fit your needs. Some types work best in certain industries, while others are used in specific situations. As you can see, conveyors seem quite simple – and they really are – but proper planning is important to the success of their implementation and your business.
